Candy Research Ideas:
Jolly Ranchers: corn syrup, sugar, 2% or less of Malic Acid, natural & artificial flavor, artificial color (Red 40, Blue 1, Yellow 5, Yellow 6), mineral oil, soy lecithin
Pop Rocks: sugar, lactose (milk sugar), corn syrup & flavoring, processed w. carbon dioxide
Ring Pops: sugar, corn syrup, buffered lactic acid, grape artificial flavor, titanium dioxide, carmine, blue 1, sour blue raspberry, artificial flavor, titanium dioxide, blue 1, blue 2
War Heads: corn syrup, sugar, microencapsulated malic acid (malic acid, hydrogenated palm oil), citric acid, gum acacia, soybean oil, ascorbic acid, artificial flavors, carnauba wax, corn starch, blue 1, red 40, yellow 5.
- For this part of the project, the class decided that we would pursue the chemistry that goes behind the creation of candies. Our teacher instructed us to all each choose a candy and in the end we were surprised to the things that go into our body everyday with the consumption of these candies. Some of the students in the classroom even stated they were discouraged to consume candy any longer.
- Among the candies that were selected, we selected: Big League Chew Gum, Jolly Ranchers, Pop Rocks, Ring Pops, and War Heads. Below you will find a list of ingredients of each candy.
